City of Unalaska Ordnance 80-03 established the Parks, Culture and Recreation Department (PCR) on June 12, 1980. The largest increase of staff occurred in 1995 when the 30,000 square foot Community Center opened. Further labor increases occurred when the PCR Department opened Unalaska's beautiful new Public Library facility in 1999. PCR took over operation of the Aquatics Center from the school district in 1998 and completed a major renovation to the facility, complete with a new pool and water slide in 2006. From the modest three person staff in 1988, PCR grew to a staff of 22 full time employees in 2007. Further strides were made in 2010 with the renovation of the Community Center, adding a music room and expanding our cardio, weight and kids' rooms.
