We regret to inform you that today's magical story time at the Library has been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. We understand the excitement that each of you brings to our reading sessions, and it pains us to postpone the enchantment.
But fret not, for the adventure shall return next week, and we will make it a tale worth the wait! Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to sharing the wonder of stories with you again soon.

The City of Unalaska is pleased to announce that the Unalaska Public Library will sell a limited number of metal donor plaques to display on two artwork panels in the library entryway. The metal panels and plaques have been designed by Cat Cramer, the metal artist who created the metal windscreen in front of the library.
These plaques will display the names of donors and will cost $200 each. Plaques come in the following shapes:
• Halibut
• Otter
• Puffin, standing
• Puffin, swimming
• Raven
• Rockfish
We will sell a limited number of each shape, so contact us early for the best selection! Donors may purchase plaques from October 30 – December 1. We anticipate installing the panels and donor plaques in Spring 2024.
Sample plaques may be viewed at the Unalaska Public Library. Please contact the library for more information about this opportunity, including character limits and payment options.

The Aquatics Center will close at 5:00 PM on October 31st for the PCR Halloween Event. The Community Center Gymnasium will be unavailable all day, but the Community Center and Unalaska Public Library will remain open as usual. Thank you for your understanding. See you at the Halloween event! 🎃👻🕸️

We're excited to host the PCR Annual Halloween Event TOMORROW, October 31st, and we have a lineup of fun activities for everyone to enjoy.
1. Family Games and Photo Booth: 🎮📸
Time: 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM
Location: PCR Gymnasium
Play a selection of fun child-oriented games and stop by the photo booth for a free family picture. Participants will receive a treat bag on your way out of the gym to the Community Trunk or Treat that has been sponsored by Alaska Ship Supply and Safeway.
2. Community Trunk or Treat: 🚗🍭
Time: 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM
Location: PCR rear parking lot (weather permitting)
City departments and businesses are invited to participate and host a trunk. Please contact the PCR front desk to reserve your spot.
3. Halloween Costume Contest: 🎭🏆
Time: 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Registration: Begins at 4:30 PM
Location: PCR Library
Costume judging for all ages: 0-5, 6-12, teen, adult, and a family category.
Categories include Best Character, Best Homemade, and Judges’ Choice.
Winners will be announced at the end of the PCR Halloween Event at the Community Center.
4. Pumpkin Carving and Decorating Contest: 🎃🎨
Submission Deadline: No later than 8:00 PM on October 30th
Location: PCR Community Center front desk
Get creative and showcase your pumpkin carving and decorating skills by submitting your pumpkin for the Annual Pumpkin Carving and Decorating Contest.

The Unalaska Teen Council Haunted House will be open from 8pm to 10pm tonight, Saturday October 28th at Burma Road.
Admission is $5
Recommended for ages 13+, children under the age of 13 may be accompanied by a parent/adult/guardian.

Today is the day of our annual Pumpkin Plunge event!! Stop by the Aquatic Center (Friday, October 20th) from 6:30pm-8:30pm to pick out your FOREVER pumpkin. Get spooky, silly, cute, and creative with decorations provided in the upstairs mezzanine after your plunge.
This upcoming Friday, October 20th join us for Art Afterschool where we'll explore the enchanting world of recycled glass art, crafting exquisite stained glass-inspired pieces. The cost for this creative experience is just $10, and the class is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m., open to students in grades 5 through 12.

POP UP Art Workshop! Drop in style Saturday October 7th for grades K-12 (toddlers with a parent); come by anytime between 1 and 3pm at the Multi-Purpose Room. Join visiting stained glass artist Marissa Baker for more faux stained glass art projects. The fee is $5 and registration is open.
Mutant Toys: Join us for a Mutant Toy Workshop at the Unalaska Public Library on Wednesday, October 25, 5:30 – 6:30. We will have toy parts that you can put together to make your own cute, weird, or creepy creation! We’ll display our mutants at the library through October 31, then you can take them home. Cookbook Book Club: Calling all cooks and bakers! The library is starting a cookbook book club. Check out a copy of this month's cookbook, PRUNE by Gabrielle Hamilton, try a few recipes, and then get together at the library on Thursday, October 12, 5:30 – 6:30 to share some food and talk about how they turned out. Local home chef Carlos Tayag will make something delicious from October's book for the meeting. Copies of PRUNE are available to check out from the library now.
