Children will learn about Unangax̂ values, traditional arts, storytelling, and songs. Youth Journalists Program: Voices of Unalaska
Empower your child’s voice and curiosity with our Youth Journalists Project! Over six inspiring weeks, students in grades 6–12 will dive into the world of storytelling, journalism, and creative nonfiction. Each week, participants will explore their community through interviews, research, and real-world reporting—guided by local educators and radio professionals from KUCB.
On Tuesdays, students will visit the KUCB studio to learn audio recording and storytelling techniques, while Thursdays will be spent at the high school developing strong writing, editing, and communication skills. From personal essays to community profiles, students will have the chance to tell stories that matter to them and their peers.
By the end of the program, students will publish their work in a professionally designed anthology and may even hear their stories broadcast on local radio! This empowering, hands-on experience helps young writers build confidence, find their voice, and connect deeply with the place they call home.
