Camp Adgayux

Camp Adgayux

If your child is too young for Camp Qungaayux̂, come join Camp Adgayux̂! Adgayux̂ is the Unangax̂ word for little pink salmon. As the local salmon are hatching and growing, your children will have the opportunity to grow in their knowledge of Unalaska’s indigenous people. Children will learn about Unangax̂ values, traditional arts, storytelling, and songs. They will explore outside and learn about the plant life of the island: what is edible, what is dangerous and what can be used medicinally. Youth Journalists project

Youth Journalists Program: Voices of Unalaska

Empower your child’s voice and curiosity with our Youth Journalists Project! Over six inspiring weeks, students in grades 6–12 will dive into the world of storytelling, journalism, and creative nonfiction. Each week, participants will explore their community through interviews, research, and real-world reporting—guided by local educators and radio professionals from KUCB.

On Tuesdays, students will visit the KUCB studio to learn audio recording and storytelling techniques, while Thursdays will be spent at the high school developing strong writing, editing, and communication skills. From personal essays to community profiles, students will have the chance to tell stories that matter to them and their peers.

By the end of the program, students will publish their work in a professionally designed anthology and may even hear their stories broadcast on local radio! This empowering, hands-on experience helps young writers build confidence, find their voice, and connect deeply with the place they call home.
