The Unalaska Teen Council is a youth-led leadership program dedicated to empowering teens to be active role models and community advocates. Open to high school students in grades 9–12, Teen Council meets every other Tuesday to discuss, plan, and implement projects that support local youth and community development through the lens of parks and recreation.

Mission Statement:

The Unalaska Teen Council is a group of ambitious, charismatic teen leaders engaging in community outreach. We strive to promote youth empowerment by giving a voice to Unalaska’s emerging leaders. We believe that our diverse perspectives and passions motivate our service.

Through structured meetings, volunteer events, and community engagement opportunities, members gain valuable experience in leadership, public speaking, event planning, and service learning. Teens also have the opportunity to represent Unalaska at local and statewide youth leadership events.

Key Responsibilities of Teen Council Members:

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Meet the minimum signed volunteer hour requirement based on grade level:

    • Freshmen: 10 hours

    • Sophomores: 20 hours

    • Juniors: 30 hours

    • Seniors: 40 hours

  • Consistently attend scheduled meetings and community events

  • Serve as a positive role model for peers and younger youth

Sweetheart's Game Show

Celebrate February with a fun, meaningful, and engaging evening created just for our teens! The Sweetheart Game Show is happening on February 13, 2026, and is designed especially for teen couples. This youth-led event blends laughter, competition, and learning as couples participate in a playful game-show style experience. 🎀✨

Because February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, Teen Council is partnering with USAFV to help educate teens on healthy relationships, communication, boundaries, and recognizing signs of unhealthy or unsafe behavior. This event creates a safe, supportive environment where teens can have fun and gain important tools for building respectful relationships. πŸ’›

Midnight Madness is a high-energy event created by our Teen Council to give teens a fun, safe, and exciting night to just be themselves. Designed by teens, for teens, it brings students together for games, friendly challenges, and social connection in a supervised, positive environment. It’s all about making memories, building community, and giving our youth a space of their own for the night. 😎✨

Mini Madness is a kid-friendly afternoon of games, movement, and fun designed for our younger elementary students. This event gives K–5 children a chance to laugh, explore, and play in a safe, supervised setting. Created to build confidence, friendship, and community spirit, Mini Madness brings kids together for a joyful day designed especially for them. πŸŽ‰πŸ˜Š

Our Teen Council Thrift Shop is a community-driven clothing swap created to support families, reduce waste, and give gently used items a new life. This youth-led event encourages sustainability, generosity, and community connection. Teen Council members collect, sort, and organize donated clothing so families can browse and take what they need β€” completely free. β™»οΈπŸ’›

Clothing Donations

We invite community members to donate gently used clothing for children, teens, and adults. All donations help support Teen Council’s youth-led projects and events.

  • Donation bins will be available starting March 30, 2025.

  • Clothes should be dropped off two weeks before the event so our Teen Council members have time to sort and prepare.
